ABOUT ME
Shayde /ʃeɪd/ (she/her) is based in Brighton (uk), and is a black-british Intimacy Coordinator, trained by the Intimacy Professionals Association, a sag-aftra accredited program, under leading intimacy professionals, Amanda Blumenthal and Rebecca Johannsen.
Shayde has worked consistently across stage and screen and Approaches intimacy coordination from an acting background, having graduated from the guildhall school of music and drama in 2023.
Shayde is committed to creating empowering, safe, and respectful spaces for performers. she has a passion for facilitating creativity and collaboration between cast and crew, whilst delivering innovative and thoughtful choreography to intimate scenes in order to bring the director and showrunners vision to life.
she has extensive training in the colloquial and somatic movement of bodies, and uses her knowledge of methodologies such as LABAN and Feldenkrais to inform naturalism within her choreography, whilst utilising her actors brain to make sure it always serves the characters, narrative, and creative vision of the production.
what are intimacy
coordinators?
Intimacy coordinators are trained professionals who choreograph a variety of intimate scenes in collaboration with the director showrunners vision, opening a line of communication between performers surrounding consent and intentions, to balance the interests of those in the scene, and work to provide a space where they can create their best nuanced work, safely and comfortably.
We make sure to advocate for the performer and communicate on their behalf, ensuring their riders, contracts and personal boundaries are respected, whilst following union guidelines, protocols and regulations making sure they’re adhered to on set by cast and crew, in regards to any intimate scenes.
when do we
need ics?
Any scenes which deal with nudity, simulated sex, or moments of connection between intimate areas, such as the chest, breast, genital or butt area
Any scenes involving kissing, groping of intimate areas, or implied nudity including for medical scenes
Any scenes involving provocative or highly sexualised dancing
Any scenes involving the intimacy of young people such as a first kiss, a nude baby, or breast-feeding
Sometimes, any particularly vulnerable or sensitive scenes surrounding intimate content
why do we need
them?
Intimacy coordinators create process, form and structure on set
We work to make sure the performers can do their best work in a space the protects their safety and privacy, and provide pastoral support, where needed
We advocate for the performers needs, keeping their emotional and physical wellbeing at the forefront of our responsibilities
adding the
spice!
As someone who has worked on both sides of the line, shayde is well versed in both the actors' and directors’ process, language, and methodology, and is passionate about using that knowledge to ensure the complexities of the characters are brought to the forefront of all the spicy scenes she choreographs, whilst working mindfully and efficiently to get the job done.
Within her practice, she prioritises empathy, laughter, and a gentle professionalism, that makes for an effective, collaborative, and playful atmosphere on set.
she can adjust her services to best suit the needs of each production, whether performers and director are more comfortable with choreography, thus wanting an IC to observe and step in for safety concerns, or would prefer for the ic to create a blueprint of the scene, then refine together to form the final product.
